Greetings Corsairs. My name is Maomao - an apothecary working out of Elysium. I've met several of the outlanders for health check-ups, and I'm open to treating any injuries that need looking at, though my specialty is in medicines and poisons.

The reason I'm speaking up is because I'd like to collect more ingredients to experiment with. Rare plants and herbs are always welcome, but more pointedly, I'd like to try aiming for monster parts. As for what parts, I imagine the most likely to be useful would be organs, or any part which a monster uses to channel ether.

I can pay... [ A pause. ] ...not handsomely, but fairly, for anything you can bring me. Of course, I'll also just take donations. These experiments will, naturally, go on to benefit the Corsairs as a whole.

Oh, and if you find any plant monsters, just bring the entire thing. I'll find room for it.

If you got your hands on a plant monster, what could you do with it?

Harvest its parts and experiment with them.

Unlike animals, every part of a plant has the potential to be useful in both medicine and other mixtures.

How intact would you prefer them to be?

[The man's weapon of choice is a bigass hammer.]

In pieces is fine.

For crushing blows... I suppose as long as it's not pulped it should be good to work with. I'm likely to crush things myself in breaking down ingredients, but you don't want to end up having various parts mixed together, like leaf and stem.

I'll see what I can do, but precision has never been my strong point.

Hmm, maybe if I had a partner...

[He's just thinking out loud, not asking Maomao to go fight monsters with him. It's hard to tell, with his voice's generally pretty flat affect.]

You could try asking one of the guards to accompany you. I'm afraid somebody like me would only slow down the operation - I don't know how to fight and my magical skills are nonexistent.

We'll each stick to what we're best at then, shall we?

Empire took them.

And we haven't gotten them back yet??

[ You can HEAR the shock in her voice - that sounds incredibly important! For her! ]

I don't know where they are.

That would make things more difficult...



Do you remember who took your things? And where you were?

They were in my korok-enchanted pack.

They got me at Seisgrun.

[2mao]

If you remember what the Imperial who took the pack from you looked like, we could have somebody look out for them. We have contacts who can get into Imperial outposts and cities.

[ Which is... technically true. The question is if they'll think Link's pack is worth sticking their necks out for. ]

There was...a group?

I was escaping, but they captured me.

That can be a good thing.

If an individual takes your things, they're liable to hold onto it for themselves. Sell it, use it, whatever they like.

But in a group, unless they can all agree how to divide it, they're more likely to do the "proper" thing and turn it over to storage. Which can make finding it easier... though it will also be better guarded.

...Do you know how to find them?

I'll keep an eye out.

I'm going fishing soon, I'll make sure I'll keep any plants, or non-fish creatures that ends up on my line.

Fishing... will you be heading to Flotsam for that?

There and a couple of islets that's within rowing distance.

I've heard Flotsam deals with a lot of sea monsters... I haven't heard those kind of stories around Elysium, though I suppose it'd make sense if they're around here, too.

If you fish up anything like that, I'll gladly take it off your hands. I'll also happily take any pufferfish you manage to get.

Haha... most of those sea monsters might be a little too big for my line, but I do sometimes snag a lost tooth or scale.

[He makes a puzzled noise]

Pufferfish? I guess I can keep some instead of throwing them back.

Yes, I'd love to try some. I asked the dwarf chef, but he didn't seem keen on getting me any.

Senshi? I mean, he is kind of a protective sort.

[He suddenly snaps his finger]

Oh! I remember, we were both talking about there needs to be a guide for edible plants, perhaps something for medicinal plants might be helpful as well?

There definitely are guides to medicinal plants, but they're not always updated or well organized. Especially for islands that aren't up in the sky, part of the Empire proper.

And I suspect, not really illustrated either.

Some of them might be, but they'd be far more expensive. Nothing I've used in my studies at least.

Monster parts, huh? Did work like that back home, shouldn't be a problem.

[ Id's accustomed enough to have a sense of which parts usually get asked after, provided that kind of thing applies in more worlds than one. ]

Like I said, I can't pay well, but I can pay fairly at least. Though if you'd like to offer any parts as a donation I'll gladly accept.

I wouldn't mind healing potions or salves if you've ever got a surplus around. Otherwise, I'll just hand the parts over.

My captain's giving me some time off for the summer festivities next week. I'll bring you something then.

[Because while Laios is pretty adjusted to life at sea, he naturally intends on heading for the Elysium monster hunt at the first opportunity.]
