A pirate's tactic

This is more directed to those, who like me have been dragged to this world, though I won't fault a native for listening in.

I am curious as to what we might have in common: world names, languages, culture, technology - and what is different.

This isn't just idle curiosity or a means of trying to find some comfort of familiarity in such a strange land, but I suspect if there is enough of a commonality in one area or another, we could in someway use it to our advantage against the Empire.

Well, there's many languages - two I speak quite well, a third... not so well.

[The man assumes Sentinel was some kind of guard or protector, before he starts first in Japanese, then German - and both would not sound at all similar]

I am a pirate, so I am naturally inclined to reject the rigidity of military life, and care little for hierarchy. This is the most widely spoken language where I am from.

{Now this one is what I spoke at home when I was a child, I hadn't had much use of it as of late, though I try not to let it go unused and get rusty.}

Unfortunately for Harlock, him speaking in Japanese gets a headtilt. Him speaking in German gets a further headtilt.]

[It was a long shot. She figures the next part will be too, but she has to ask.]

Uh, one second. Lemme write somethin'...doubt ya can read it, but...

[Quickly, she uses a quill to write out something on a sheet of paper, then holds it up.]

Anythin'? An' what were them languages ya were speakin' in?

I can't really make out what's written, as for what I speak - the first is Japanese, it's the predominant language among humans in my time, and the second is German, that is the language my... [He gestures, glancing as he tries to think] family in the past spoke for thousands of years.

Ah've never heard o'them 'fore...They sound completely different, too. Ah guess they're from different areas?

[She doesn't know linguisitics worth a darn, so she's not sure how different the places really are...]
